There is no single best MacBook repair shop in Singapore, because a MacBook is really four repairs wearing one case: the display, the battery, the keyboard deck and the logic board. The shop that is best at one of those is often the shop that sends the other three away. Ten things tell you which kind you are standing in front of — and you can check every one of them before you hand anything over.

We should say up front that we repair MacBooks for a living, so we are one of the shops you might be weighing up. That is the reason this is a checklist and not a top-ten list. A ranking written by a shop that happened to put itself first would tell you nothing you could verify. Ten questions you can take to any counter, ours included, are worth more than our opinion of ourselves.

The 10 checks, in one table

1. Can they replace the screen without replacing the whole lid?

This is the question that separates MacBook shops fastest, and it is worth asking first because it is where most of the money is.

Apple services a broken Retina display by swapping the entire top case assembly — panel, lid, hinges, antennas, camera. It is a clean repair and an expensive one. A shop that can replace only the bonded panel is doing more delicate work for less money, and on most models that is the difference between a repair you will pay for and one you will think twice about. At Citri Mobile a MacBook screen replacement runs $140–$550 depending on the model, with every one of them priced individually on the MacBook repair page.

Ask the question plainly: can you replace just the panel, and what does each option cost? A shop that only has one answer is only offering you one price. We go through both routes in detail in our guide to MacBook screen replacement cost in Singapore.

There is a related fault worth naming, because almost nobody quotes for it separately. If your screen shows a dark band along the bottom edge, or the backlight cuts out below a certain hinge angle, that is usually the display flex cable wearing through — the problem owners call flexgate. It is a cable fault, not a panel fault, and flexgate repair starts at $150, a long way below a display. A shop that quotes you for a whole screen without looking at the hinge angle has not diagnosed it.

2. Is board-level work done in-house, or sent away?

Screens and batteries are the easy half of MacBook repair. Everything else — a machine that will not power on, a board that was in the way when a drink went over, a charging circuit that stopped negotiating with the adapter — lives on the logic board and needs micro-soldering.

If a shop subcontracts that work, three things follow. Your MacBook physically leaves the premises. The timeline stops being theirs to promise. And when something needs a second look, you are talking to someone who is relaying your question to a workshop you have never dealt with.

Ask what gets sent out, and to whom. A shop that does board-level MacBook repair on site can tell you whether a dead machine has a power problem or a storage problem, instead of quoting you for a replacement board because that is all it can fit.

3. Is there a price for your exact MacBook, before you go?

A MacBook Air from 2015 and a 16-inch Pro from last year are not the same repair and should not carry the same quote. "From $X" on a web page covers both, which means it tells you about neither.

Search your model on the shop's site before you travel. If the price appears, you can compare it. If the only way to get a number is to carry the machine across the island, the number is being set after they have seen how much you need it fixed. We publish a price for every one of the 47 MacBook models in our catalog, and the common ones look like this:

RepairFromUsually
MacBook screen replacement Singapore$140Same visit on common models
MacBook battery replacement Singapore$85Same visit
MacBook flexgate cable repair$150Usually same day
MacBook keyboard replacement Singapore$130Usually same day
MacBook trackpad replacement$120Usually same day
MacBook charging port repair$85Usually same day
MacBook speaker replacement$95Usually same day
MacBook liquid damage chemical wash$80Diagnosis first, then a quote
MacBook logic board repairQuoted after diagnosisDepends on the fault

Those are nett prices. What you are quoted is what you pay, and there is nothing added at the counter.

4. Do they ask for your A-number?

Apple sold several different machines under the same marketing name. "13-inch MacBook Pro" covers at least six distinct repairs, and the parts are not interchangeable between them.

The identifier that actually settles it is the A-number, printed in small type on the underside of the case: A1932, A2337, A3113 and so on. You can also find it under the Apple menu, in About This Mac. A shop that asks for it is ordering the right part the first time. A shop that does not is going to find out on the bench, with your machine already open.

It is worth knowing yours before you make any call, to any shop. Our catalog is keyed by A-number for the same reason — find your model on the MacBook repair page and the price shown is the price for that exact machine.

5. What happens to your data, and do they need your password?

A MacBook holds more of your life than a phone does, and the honest answer here has two halves.

Most hardware repairs — a battery, a trackpad, a speaker — do not need anyone to log in. Some do: if the fault is intermittent, or the machine will not boot, the only way to confirm a repair worked is to start it up and use it. On a Mac with FileVault turned on, that means your password.

So the question is not "will you look at my files", it is "does this specific repair need my password, and why". A shop that can answer that for your fault has thought about it. A shop that asks for your password as a matter of routine has not. Either way, back up before you go — ours is a short guide to backing up a MacBook before a repair, and it takes less time than the trip to the shop.

6. Which grade of part are you being quoted?

Price differences between shops usually come down to one thing, and it is not skill. It is the grade of the part.

Be careful with the word genuine here, because it gets used loosely. Genuine Apple parts are available to independent shops for eligible iPhone repairs through Apple's Independent Repair Provider programme, which we take part in. For a MacBook, the honest answer from any independent shop in Singapore is Original Grade, and a shop advertising genuine MacBook parts is stretching the word. We set out what the grades mean on our parts quality page.

What you want is the grade named, in writing, before the work starts. A lower price with an Original Grade part stated up front is a legitimate choice, particularly on an older machine. A lower price with no part named is not a price. It is a guess that you will be asked to honour later.

7. Is liquid damage described as a repair, or as a diagnosis?

This is the one where shops most often oversell, and it is easy to spot.

Liquid on a logic board does two things: it shorts circuits immediately, and it corrodes them for weeks afterwards. The treatment is a chemical wash — the board comes out, goes through an ultrasonic clean, and is inspected and powered up under current. Sometimes the machine comes back fully. Sometimes the wash reveals damage that was always going to be terminal. Nobody can tell you which before the board is out.

So the right answer is a chemical wash from $80 as a diagnostic step, followed by a quote for whatever it finds. A shop that promises a liquid-damaged MacBook will be fine is promising something it cannot know. There is more in our guide to MacBook liquid damage repair in Singapore, including the two things to do in the first few minutes that genuinely change the odds.

8. How long will it take, honestly?

Be suspicious of one fixed number for every job. A battery and a board repair are not the same work, and a shop quoting the same turnaround for both has not looked at your machine.

What a good answer sounds like: a range, with the slow cases named. Batteries, trackpads, keyboards and most screens on common models are usually done within the visit or the day, subject to the part being in stock for your model. Board-level work and liquid damage take longer because diagnosis comes first and the answer shapes the job. Less common models can wait on a part.

If you are travelling in, message first with your model and the fault. That is the only way anyone can tell you whether your part is on the shelf today.

9. What is the warranty, and what voids it?

The warranty is the only part of a repair you can still hold a shop to after you have walked out, which makes it the most important sentence of the whole transaction.

The number of days matters less than whether the shop will write it down and tell you plainly what cancels it. Ask three things: how long, what exactly it covers, and what voids it. Most warranties in this trade cover the part fitted and the work done to fit it, and almost none cover a new drop, fresh liquid, or a different fault appearing later. That is fair. What is not fair is a shop that will not tell you which applies until something has already gone wrong.

Our warranty and service terms are published, and eligible completed MacBook repairs carry a warranty of up to 100 days depending on the machine and the job.

10. Is there somewhere you can walk back into?

Most repairs are fine. The ones that are not are the reason this matters.

If something needs a second look, the difference between a counter you can return to and a collection point you cannot is the difference between an afternoon and an argument. Check the address exists, check it has opening hours, and check it is somewhere you would actually go back to on a weekday.

Citri Mobile has four walk-in shops — People's Park Centre in Chinatown, Tampines, Yishun and Jurong Point — open 11am–9pm daily. They are listed with addresses on our locations page. Call or message before you travel so we can confirm the part for your model is in stock.

Still not sure what is wrong with your MacBook?

You do not need a diagnosis to get a quote, but knowing roughly what you are dealing with makes the conversation shorter. Start from the symptom:

If none of those fit, the MacBook troubleshooting guide works through the rest.

Is it worth repairing a MacBook at all?

A rough rule, and it holds up well on MacBooks: if the repair costs less than about half of what a comparable replacement would, and the rest of the machine is sound, repairing is the better call.

Run the numbers rather than the feeling. A battery at $85 on a machine that otherwise works is not a close decision. A screen plus a board repair on a ten-year-old Air probably is. The thing that trips people up is assuming a MacBook is uneconomical to fix because it is hard to open — it is harder than a phone, but that is a labour question, not a write-off. We looked at that properly in is a MacBook hard to repair.

Get the diagnosis before you decide either way. The fault people assume they have is rarely the one that gets quoted, and that works in both directions.

Best MacBook repair in Singapore: FAQs

Which is the best MacBook repair shop in Singapore?
No shop is best for every MacBook repair, and one that claims to be is selling rather than answering. Compare ten things instead: whether they can replace the panel alone rather than the whole lid, whether board-level work is done in-house, whether a price exists for your exact model, whether they ask for your A-number, what they need your password for, which grade of part you are being quoted, whether liquid damage is described as a diagnosis, an honest turnaround range, a written warranty, and a counter you can return to.
How much does MacBook repair cost in Singapore?
At Citri Mobile a MacBook battery replacement starts at $85, a screen replacement runs $140–$550 depending on the model, flexgate cable repair starts at $150, a keyboard at $130 and a trackpad at $120. Liquid damage starts with a chemical wash from $80 and is quoted once the board has been inspected. All prices are nett and every model is priced individually.
Do you use genuine Apple parts for MacBook repairs?
No, and no independent shop in Singapore honestly can. Genuine Apple parts are available to us for eligible iPhone repairs through the Apple Independent Repair Provider programme. MacBook repairs use Original Grade parts, which is what we say on the quote. If a shop advertises genuine MacBook parts, ask them to put the sourcing in writing.
Can a MacBook screen be repaired without replacing the whole lid?
On most Retina models, yes. The bonded panel can be replaced on its own, which is a more delicate repair than swapping the complete top case assembly and costs considerably less. Whether it is the right call depends on the model and on whether the lid, hinges or camera were damaged too. Ask for both prices and decide with the numbers in front of you.
Is it worth replacing a MacBook battery?
Usually, if the rest of the machine is sound. Check the cycle count first — hold Option, click the Apple menu, open System Information and look under Power. A battery past roughly 1,000 cycles, or one macOS has flagged as Service Recommended, is doing real damage to how usable the machine is, and replacing it is among the cheapest things you can do to a MacBook.
How long does a MacBook repair take?
Batteries, keyboards, trackpads and screens on common models are usually finished within the visit or the same day, provided the part for your model is in stock. Board-level repair and liquid damage take longer, because the diagnosis comes first and what it finds decides the job. Any shop giving you one fixed number for every repair has not looked at your machine.
Does a third-party repair void my Apple warranty?
If your MacBook is still inside its Apple warranty or AppleCare+, third-party work can affect cover for the parts involved, so it is worth checking before you commit on a recent machine. Out of warranty, it is your call. We covered how this works for Apple devices in does third-party repair void your Apple warranty.
