No — a third-party repair doesn't automatically void your Apple warranty in Singapore. Apple can refuse warranty service for damage caused by a non-Apple part or a botched repair, but the rest of your coverage stands. And if your iPhone is past its first year with no AppleCare+, there's usually no warranty left to protect anyway. Here's how the rules actually work, and when each option makes sense.

What does the Apple warranty actually cover?
Every iPhone sold in Singapore comes with Apple's one-year limited warranty. It covers manufacturing defects — a battery that fails early, a speaker that dies on its own, a camera that stops focusing for no reason. It does not cover accidental damage. Drop your phone and crack the screen in month three, and that repair was never covered in the first place; Apple will quote you their out-of-warranty fee whether or not you've ever visited a repair shop.
Alongside Apple's warranty, Singapore's consumer protection law (the "lemon law") gives you separate rights against the retailer for goods that turn out to be defective, strongest in the first six months. That's a claim on the shop that sold you the phone, and it exists whether or not Apple's own warranty applies.
So does opening my iPhone at a third-party shop void the warranty?
Not wholesale. The rule Apple applies is narrower than the myth: if damage is caused by an unauthorised repair or a non-Apple part, that damage isn't covered. The warranty on everything else survives. Say a shop replaces your screen and six months later the camera develops a genuine manufacturing fault — Apple can't point at the screen and wave the whole phone away, unless the screen job caused the camera problem. Apple's own repair pages describe it the same way: unauthorised modifications or damage from them aren't covered.
In practice, the honest risks of a third-party repair are these:
- A bad repair can cause damage, and that damage won't be covered by Apple. This is a real risk with cheap, rushed work — and the main reason to pick a shop carefully. Our guide on choosing an iPhone repair shop in Singapore covers what to look for.
- Parts messages. On newer iPhones, iOS flags non-Apple-paired parts ("Unknown Part" or "Unable to verify") in Settings. The phone works normally; it's a label, and it matters mostly if you plan to claim warranty or AppleCare+ service later.
- Apple may decline to service a phone mid-claim until third-party parts are dealt with, which can complicate an open warranty case.
Which leads to the practical rule we give customers every day at the counter.
The simple rule: check your coverage first
- Under one year old, and the problem looks like a defect? Go to Apple first. The repair is likely free under warranty, and you keep everything clean. Check your status at checkcoverage.apple.com.
- You have AppleCare+? Use it, especially for accidental damage — that's exactly what you paid for. A third-party part in the phone can complicate future AppleCare+ claims, so keep repairs with Apple while the plan runs.
- Out of warranty, no AppleCare+? This is most iPhones in Singapore more than a year old — and here a third-party repair risks nothing, because there's no coverage left to lose. Now it's purely a question of price, speed and quality.
What do out-of-warranty repairs cost at an independent shop?
Once the warranty question falls away, the comparison is straightforward: Apple's out-of-warranty fees run to hundreds of dollars for screens and major parts, with an appointment and often a wait. An independent shop does the common jobs the same day at a fraction of that. Our current catalog prices, nett:
| Repair | Citri Mobile price (nett) |
|---|---|
| Battery, Original Grade | $25–$60 |
| Battery, genuine Apple (IRP, eligible models) | $110–$130 |
| Screen, Grade AAA | $30–$145 |
| Screen, Original Grade | $35–$330 |
| Screen, genuine Apple display (IRP, eligible models) | $355–$520 |
| Charging port, Original Grade | $25–$55 |
| Back glass, Grade AAA | $40–$75 |

Where does the Apple IRP programme fit in?
There's a middle path between "Apple or nothing" and an anonymous mall kiosk. Citri Mobile is a Certified Independent Repair Provider under Apple's IRP programme, which means we can fit genuine Apple parts for eligible iPhone repairs — real Apple screens and batteries, with Apple tools and procedures. You get the independent-shop price and turnaround, and for eligible models the part itself is the same one Apple would fit. The differences between authorised, independent and IRP shops are worth two minutes to understand — we've laid them out in Apple Authorised vs Independent Repair Provider.
One thing an IRP repair doesn't do: it doesn't extend or restore an Apple warranty. What it does is keep your phone on genuine parts, which keeps future servicing simple.
Three warranty myths we hear every week
- "The shop sticker voids everything." There's no sticker rule. Apple assesses the phone and the specific damage, and coverage turns on what caused what.
- "Once opened, Apple won't ever touch it." Apple services previously repaired phones routinely; they may require non-Apple parts to be addressed first, and they won't cover damage a repair caused.
- "Third-party repair is only for old phones." Plenty of our customers bring in current-generation iPhones with cracked screens — accidental damage was never covered by the standard warranty, so without AppleCare+ the choice is Apple's out-of-warranty fee or ours.

Third-party repair and Apple warranty: FAQs
- Does a third-party screen replacement void my Apple warranty?
Not by itself. Apple can refuse to cover damage caused by the third-party part or repair, but the rest of the warranty remains. A cracked screen was never covered by the standard warranty anyway, since it's accidental damage.
- Can Apple refuse to service my iPhone because it has non-Apple parts?
Apple may require non-Apple parts to be dealt with before servicing, and won't cover damage those parts caused. They don't blanket-refuse phones that have been repaired elsewhere.
- Should I use a third-party shop if I still have AppleCare+?
Usually no. AppleCare+ accidental-damage fees are what you paid for, and keeping repairs with Apple keeps future claims simple. Once AppleCare+ lapses, independent repair carries no coverage risk.
- Does an IRP repair keep my Apple warranty intact?
An IRP repair uses genuine Apple parts for eligible iPhone repairs under Apple's programme, which keeps the phone on Apple parts and future servicing straightforward. It doesn't extend or restore the warranty itself.
- My iPhone is two years old. Is there any warranty risk in third-party repair?
Practically none. The one-year limited warranty has expired, so unless you bought AppleCare+, there's no Apple coverage left to lose. The decision comes down to price, speed and repair quality.
- Will iOS show a warning after a third-party repair?
On newer models, iOS labels non-Apple-paired screens or batteries in Settings ("Unknown Part" or "Unable to verify"). The phone works normally. Genuine Apple parts fitted under the IRP programme for eligible repairs pair without the message.
