Why do MacBook screens cost so much more than phone screens?

A MacBook display is a large, high-resolution panel — and on 14- and 16-inch Pros it's a mini-LED Liquid Retina screen with hundreds of dimming zones. The part alone is expensive, which is why a Pro screen can be four times the price of an older Air. A few things decide where yours lands:

Screen size and type. Older LCD-era Airs are the cheapest. Retina and Liquid Retina panels cost more, and the 14/16-inch Pro sits at the top.
Whether the whole display or just the glass is damaged. On a MacBook the glass and panel are bonded as one unit, so a crack usually means a full display assembly.
Extra damage from the drop. A knock that also bent the lid or damaged the hinge or camera adds to the job.

Screen stays dark but isn't cracked? That might be Flexgate

Not every "broken screen" needs a new panel. If your MacBook display flickers, has a bright bar or "stage light" effect along the bottom, or goes black while the Mac is clearly still running, the culprit is often the display flex cable — a known weak point on 2016–2019 MacBook Pros, nicknamed Flexgate. That's a S$150–200 cable repair, not a S$495 panel. We always check for this first, so you're not quoted for a full display you don't need.

Is an Original Grade MacBook screen any good?

Yes. An Original Grade display brings back full brightness, colour and resolution, and it's covered by our 30-100 days warranty — longer than the usual three-month cover most shops offer. It's the option most people choose because it balances quality against the high cost of the panel. If you've been quoted a suspiciously cheap screen elsewhere, ask what grade it is: a low-grade panel can look dimmer, show colour that's off, or fail within weeks.

Can I replace a MacBook screen myself?

For most people it isn't worth it. A MacBook display assembly is fiddly to swap — there are delicate antenna and camera cables running through the hinge, the panel is easy to crack a second time, and on newer models the display is tightly integrated.
