Common Samsung Galaxy Book Faults, and What They Usually Turn Out to Be

• Cracked AMOLED panel. The display is the most expensive part of a Galaxy Book, and on the Pro and Ultra it is an AMOLED assembly rather than a plain LCD. On touch models the glass and the panel come as one part, which is why touch screens sit in the higher price band.
• Will not charge. Modern Galaxy Books charge over USB-C only, and that port is soldered to the board. So a charging fault on one of these is board-level rather than a jack swap. Rule the charger out first — it costs nothing to test.
• Battery flat in a couple of hours. The thin chassis means a modest cell working hard. After three or four years the drop is noticeable. Windows will show you exactly how much capacity is left before you spend anything.
• Pro 360 hinge loose or sticking. A convertible hinge does far more work than a fixed one. A lid that no longer holds its angle is the hinge, and it is much cheaper to fix before it starts stressing the display.
• S Pen no longer registering. On Pro 360 models the pen runs off a digitiser layer bonded to the display. If the pen has stopped working across the whole screen rather than in one area, that is a display assembly question, and it is worth diagnosing rather than guessing.
• Keys dead or repeating. The keyboard on these is part of the top case, so the part replaced is larger than the keys themselves.
