The Warning Signs, In the Order They Arrive

  1. The lid feels stiffer than it did, or one side opens more easily than the other. This is the moment to act.
  2. A creak or a click when you open it. The mounting post has started to fail.
  3. A visible gap between the bezel and the lid near the hinge, usually at one corner first.
  4. The lid no longer holds its angle, or it flops back on its own.
  5. The bezel has separated and you can see inside the lid. The panel is now unsupported.
