Common MSI Faults, and What They Usually Turn Out to Be

• Throttling under load. The classic MSI symptom. Fine for the first ten minutes, then frame rates collapse and the fans scream. The machine is protecting itself from heat it can no longer shed. Dust and dried paste, and it responds well to a clean and a repaste.
• High-refresh panel cracked. A 144Hz, 165Hz or 240Hz panel is not interchangeable with a 60Hz one of the same size, and it costs meaningfully more. This is the main reason gaming screens sit at the top of the laptop screen range rather than the bottom.
• Power jack worn or the brick failed. MSI gaming machines draw a lot, so they use big barrel-jack adapters. Both the jack and the brick fail, and they fail differently. Try the adapter on another machine before assuming the laptop is at fault.
• Battery worn out fast. Gaming laptops are hard on cells: long sessions, high load, the machine already warm. MSI owners tend to notice the drop-off a year earlier than most.
• Keys dead after a spill. Drinks and gaming keyboards find each other. On most MSI models the keyboard is part of the top case, so the replacement part is larger than the keyboard alone.
• No display but the RGB still lights. Keyboard lighting coming on tells you the board has power. That points at the panel, the backlight or the display cable rather than the machine being dead.

1. Send the model number. Message it with a photo of the fault and we can usually tell you what it is and roughly what it costs before you travel.
2. Free diagnosis. We find the actual fault before quoting. It is often the cheaper of the two things it could be, and you should know that before you pay for either.
3. One nett quote. The number we give you is the number at collection. If you would rather not go ahead, the diagnosis still costs nothing.
4. The repair. Laptop parts are ordered against your exact model, so we give you a realistic timing when we quote rather than a number we cannot keep to.
5. Tested, then warranty. We check the repair works before handing it back, and it leaves with a 30-100 days warranty honoured at any of our branches.

Parts and Warranty on MSI Repairs

MSI runs no parts programme for independent repairers in Singapore, so what we fit is Original Grade or a quality equivalent, and we name the grade in the quote before you agree to anything. Anyone promising you factory parts for an out-of-warranty MSI is telling you a story. If your machine is still inside its MSI warranty and the fault appeared on its own — nothing dropped, nothing spilled — take it to MSI Singapore support first. That repair may cost you nothing, and we would rather tell you than take the job. Accidental damage, liquid and a battery worn out after three or four years are not covered by any manufacturer warranty at any age. That is the gap we fill.
