A new battery is one of the cheaper repairs you can do on a Galaxy, and it's the one people feel straight away. Most people come in for one of two reasons. The phone won't last the day any more, or it switched itself off at 25% halfway through something. A new battery fixes both. It's usually done the same day once the battery for your model is here, and nothing on the phone is wiped.

Samsung Galaxy Battery Replacement Cost: S, Note, A and Z

A Samsung Galaxy battery replacement costs from $40 with an Original Grade battery, and the exact figure depends on the model. Battery prices don't climb with the phone's price tag the way Samsung screen prices do. An A54 is $40. An S24 Ultra is $40 and a Note 20 Ultra is $40.

The foldables sit higher. A Z Fold 5 is $60 and a Z Flip 3 is $55. If your model shows "on quote" in the table, it's usually one of the newest Galaxy phones. Message us the model and we'll price it before you travel.

There's a cheaper battery too. Grade AAA Samsung batteries start at $30 on the models we offer them for. Original Grade is what we fit unless you ask otherwise, and both come with a warranty of up to 100 days. Signs Your Samsung Battery Needs Replacing

A Galaxy battery is finished when it no longer gets you through a normal day, or when the phone shuts down with charge still showing. Any one of these is enough:

• It doesn't last the day. Same apps, same habits, and it's on the charger by mid-afternoon.
• It shuts down at 20 or 30%. A worn battery can't keep up when the phone asks for a burst of power, so it cuts out early and won't come back on until it's plugged in.
• It gets hot on the charger. Warm during fast charging is normal. Too hot to hold comfortably isn't.
• The back or the screen is lifting. That's swelling, and it jumps the queue. More on it below.

Swollen Samsung Battery: What It Looks Like and What to Do

If your Samsung battery is swelling, stop charging it today. The swelling is gas building up inside a battery that has already failed, and charging feeds it.

On a glass-back Galaxy S or Note it usually shows at one corner first. The back glass lifts away from the frame and you can see grey strands of adhesive in the gap. Sometimes it pushes the other way and the screen sits proud of the frame along one side. On a plastic-back A-series phone the back cover bows out, or a gap opens along the edge that you can catch a fingernail in. Either way the phone rocks when you lay it on a table.

Take the case off, don't press anything back down, keep the phone somewhere cool and bring it in. We see swollen batteries every week, and the expensive ones are the ones left too long: the battery keeps pushing until the back glass or the screen cracks, and then you're paying for two repairs instead of one.

Changing a Samsung Battery: Glass Back or Plastic Back

To change a Samsung battery on a Galaxy S or Note, the back has to come off first. On those phones since the S6, the back panel is glued to the frame and the battery is glued in underneath it, and on most of them that back is glass.

So we warm the back to soften the adhesive, lift it off, take the old battery out, fit the new one and reseal the back with fresh adhesive. Getting the glass off in one piece is where the care goes. It's also the step that catches people out with home kits: force the glass while the adhesive is cold and it cracks. Most A-series phones have a plastic back instead, so there's no back glass to crack on the way in.

If your back glass is already cracked, say so when you message us. It has to come off for the battery anyway, so price a Samsung back glass replacement at the same time. It starts from $35.

One thing we can't promise afterwards is the water rating. The Galaxy S and Note flagships from the S7 on left the factory rated IP68. That rating weakens as the seals age anyway, and once the back has been opened, by us or by anyone else, the factory IP rating can't be promised, new adhesive or not. Treat the phone as one that should stay dry.

Is It the Battery or the Charging Port?

If the phone won't charge on the cable at all, or only charges with the plug held at an angle, suspect the port before the battery. Try another cable and charger first, then look for lint packed into the port, which is the most common cause of a loose cable.

Samsung Service Centre or an Independent Repair Shop?

Should You Replace the Battery or the Phone?

If the rest of the phone is fine, replace the battery. Next to the price of a new Galaxy, $40 hardly registers, and a fresh battery usually gives a phone that still does what you need another couple of years.

It's less clear-cut when the battery isn't the only problem. A phone that no longer gets security updates, or one with a cracked screen on top of a tired battery, can cost more to put right than it's worth.
