There are two ways to do this and the difference is worth understanding before you pick. An Original Grade battery is a quality aftermarket cell: it charges, it holds, and it costs a fraction of the alternative. A genuine Apple battery comes through the Apple Independent Repair Provider programme, and the one thing it does that nothing else can is keep the Battery Health readout in Settings working normally.

Most people take Original Grade. If the percentage in Settings matters to you, or you want the part Apple made, the genuine route is there and the price for your model is on the genuine Apple battery page. Either way the price you see is the price you pay, and we tell you which models we have cells in stock for before you make the trip.

How Do I Know If My iPhone Needs a Battery Replacement?

Open Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging and read the Maximum Capacity figure. Apple treats 80% as the point where a battery has done its work, and most iPhones reach it somewhere past 500 full charge cycles.

• Below 80%, or a Service Recommended message. Straightforward — the cell is worn and a replacement fixes it.
• Shutting down when there is charge left. A tired battery cannot deliver a burst of current, so the phone cuts out at 20 or 30% rather than draining to zero. This is the most common reason people come in.
• Hot on the back while idle, or the case no longer sits flat. A swelling cell pushes the screen up from underneath. Stop charging it and bring it in — that one is not worth waiting on.
• Fine on Wi-Fi, gone in an hour on mobile data. Often the battery, sometimes a chasing app. We check before quoting.

What the Battery Health Percentage Does After a Replacement

Worth saying plainly, because it is the question we get asked most and the answer is not the same for both options.

Fit a genuine Apple battery under the IRP programme and Settings carries on reporting Maximum Capacity the way it always did. Fit an Original Grade cell and iOS shows an "Unknown Part" note and stops reporting the percentage. The phone charges and runs exactly as it should; iOS simply won't vouch for a cell it cannot identify.

That is the whole trade. It is not a quality warning and it is not a fault, and anyone telling you an aftermarket battery will damage your iPhone is selling you something. Pick on whether the readout matters to you.

How Long Does an iPhone Battery Replacement Take?

It is one of the quicker repairs we do — most are done while you wait, usually in the region of 45 to 90 minutes once we start. If yours turns out to need longer, because the old cell is glued down hard or the screen has been opened before, we tell you before we begin rather than after.

Is It Worth Replacing an iPhone Battery or Buying a New Phone?

Run the numbers rather than the feeling. A battery on an older iPhone costs less than a tank of petrol and typically buys you another two years of normal use. Against a new handset that is not a close call.

The judgement gets harder when the phone has a second fault. A worn battery and a cracked screen on a six-year-old iPhone can add up to more than the phone is worth, and at that point trading it in is the honest answer and we will say so.
