What does "OEM screen" actually mean in Singapore?

The term causes more confusion than any other in phone repair. OEM stands for "original equipment manufacturer", so people assume an OEM screen came off Apple's production line. It didn't. Apple doesn't sell its displays to repair shops as loose OEM stock. When a shop in Singapore advertises an "OEM screen", it's an aftermarket panel — sometimes a very good one, sometimes not.

So ignore the label and ask what's actually being fitted. At Citri Mobile we quote three clearly named grades instead:

Grade AAA — a budget aftermarket panel. Decent colours and touch response at the lowest price. This is what most shops mean by "OEM".
Original Grade — a premium aftermarket display built to match the original panel type. On OLED iPhones that means a proper OLED, with the brightness and contrast you're used to. Our most popular pick.

What's actually different between the grades?

The short version: panel quality and the small Apple-only extras.

Panel type matters most. Every iPhone from the X onwards (except the 11 and SE) shipped with an OLED display. Cheaper aftermarket screens often substitute an LCD-based "incell" panel. It works, but blacks look grey next to OLED, brightness drops, and the phone can feel slightly thicker in hand. Our Grade AAA panels for OLED models are chosen to avoid the worst of this, and Original Grade panels use OLED where the phone originally had OLED — side by side with a factory screen, most people can't tell.

Colour and brightness. A genuine Apple display gives you exactly the factory calibration, peak brightness and True Tone behaviour. Original Grade gets very close. Grade AAA is where you may notice cooler colours or lower maximum brightness, mainly outdoors at noon.

Touch response. All three grades register taps and swipes fine for daily use. Heavy mobile gamers who care about touch sampling should go Original Grade or genuine.

Durability. Genuine and Original Grade panels use harder cover glass. Budget panels scratch a little more easily and shatter a little more readily on the next drop. A good case and protector narrows that gap.

Will a non-genuine screen show the "Unknown Part" warning?

On the iPhone 11 and newer, yes — replacing the display with anything other than an Apple-paired panel makes iOS show an "Unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple display" message in Settings for a while, and True Tone may be lost on some models. Your phone still works normally: calls, Face ID, camera, apps, everything. Nothing is actually wrong — iOS is just telling you the panel wasn't paired by Apple. If that message bothers you, or you want True Tone guaranteed, choose the genuine Apple display — fitted under the IRP programme, it pairs with iOS the way a repair at Apple would. Somewhat. A phone with a genuine or Original Grade display sells like an unrepaired phone in practice — buyers can't tell, and honest sellers who disclose the repair rarely lose much. A visibly dimmer budget panel can invite haggling.
