Apple Watch Screen Repair Singapore: Costs by Series

A cracked Apple Watch glass can be replaced on its own from $65, and a broken display from $75, nett. Unlike a phone, where glass and display come bonded as one part, the Apple Watch glass is a separate repair on most series. That is why a watch you assumed was finished is often a far smaller repair than you expected. What it is not worth doing on is a Series 3 or older, and we will say so.

Can a cracked Apple Watch screen actually be repaired?

Yes, and more cheaply than most owners expect, because the Apple Watch is the one Apple device where the top layer is still worth replacing by itself.

On an iPhone the glass, touch layer and OLED are laminated into one assembly, so a crack means the whole part. On Apple Watch the cover glass with its touch layer can be lifted and replaced while the OLED underneath stays in the watch. If the picture is perfect under the cracks, that is the repair you need, and it is roughly half the price of a display.

The catch is that it takes a steady hand, because the watch is small, the adhesive runs right to the curved edge, and the display cable behind it is short. It is not a job worth attempting at home.

Cracked glass or broken display: how do I tell?

Same test as any screen, on a smaller canvas.

Picture clean under the cracks, touch working everywhere. Glass only. The cheaper repair.
Black patches, spreading ink blots, lines or a rainbow bloom. The OLED is damaged and the display has to be replaced.
Touch dead in a patch, or the watch registering taps you did not make. The digitiser has gone, which lives with the glass, so it is the glass repair either way.
Screen lifting away from the case at one edge, no crack at all. That is the battery underneath swelling, and it is the urgent one. Take it off charge and bring it in.

Apple's own out-of-warranty service for a cracked Apple Watch screen is not a cheap repair, and Apple publishes it on its Apple Watch service page. If you have AppleCare+, use it, because the excess will beat any of the figures above.

Which Apple Watch is worth repairing?

The straight version, because this is the question people actually ask.

Series 6 and newer, including SE 2 and Ultra: repair it. These watches still take current watchOS, still hold resale value, and a glass replacement is a small fraction of a replacement. Easy decision.

Series 4 and 5: usually repair, if the glass is the only fault. A glass job on these is modest money and buys a couple more years. A full display on a Series 5 is a closer call, and if the battery is also tired it stops being worth it.

Series 3 and older: usually not. They no longer run current watchOS, apps have dropped support, and the parts are the same price as the newer ones. We will still do it if the watch matters to you for other reasons, and some do. But we will tell you first rather than take the job quietly.

Any series where the back is also cracked or the watch has been in water: get it diagnosed before you decide anything. Water inside a watch is a board problem, not a screen problem, and the screen is not the repair.

Why do Apple Watch screens lift off without cracking?

Because the battery underneath has swollen. It is the single most common Apple Watch complaint we see after cracked glass, and it turns up most on Series 2 and 3, though it happens to any of them eventually.

The first sign is a gap at one edge, or the display popping free entirely while the watch still works. A swollen cell has produced gas and it does not go back. Left on the wrist it keeps lifting until the display cable tears, and then a battery job becomes a battery plus a display.

If yours is lifting: take it off charge, stop wearing it, and bring it in. A battery is $50, which is far less than the display it is about to destroy. Apple has run service programmes on swelling for some Apple Watch models, so it is worth checking with Apple first if yours is one of them.

How long does an Apple Watch screen repair take?

Most run about 60 to 120 minutes. The watch is small and the adhesive runs to a curved edge, so it comes apart with heat and patience rather than speed, and it has to be resealed properly afterwards.

One thing to be clear about: a resealed Apple Watch is water resistant again in normal use, but we do not restore it to a factory water-resistance rating, and neither does anybody else outside Apple. If you swim with yours, that matters. Ask us before the repair rather than after.

Original Grade glass and Original Grade displays. Apple Watch is not covered by the Apple Independent Repair Provider programme, which is an iPhone arrangement, so nobody outside Apple fits manufacturer parts to a watch and any shop telling you otherwise is guessing.
