What's the difference between back glass and full housing replacement?

This is the one thing that changes your price, so it's worth understanding before you walk in.

• Back glass replacement swaps just the cracked rear panel. The aluminium frame, buttons and internals stay as they are. This is the price you see in the table above.
• Full housing replacement swaps the entire back assembly — the frame plus the glass, and sometimes the buttons and small parts. You need this when the frame itself is bent, dented or cracked, usually after a hard drop or a phone that's been run over.

If your glass is cracked but the frame is straight and the phone still sits flat, you're looking at a glass-only repair. If the corners are dented or the phone is slightly bent, we'll quote a housing swap instead. Either way, we'll show you which one you need before any work starts.

Why is back glass harder to replace on the iPhone 8 to 14?

On the iPhone 8 through 14, Apple bonds the rear glass straight onto the chassis with strong adhesive, right over the internal parts, including the wireless-charging coil. There's no easy panel to pop off. To take the old glass out cleanly, a technician has to break that adhesive with controlled heat or a laser machine, without nicking the coil or the components sitting underneath. It's slow, careful work, which is why these models cost what they do and why it's not a job for a cheap, rushed shop.

From the iPhone 15 onwards, Apple redesigned the back so the rear glass comes off more easily as a single panel. That's part of Apple's wider push to make iPhones easier to repair. In practice it means a newer iPhone 15 or 16 can sometimes be swapped faster, even though the genuine panel itself costs more. Your repair price is really a mix of the part and how fiddly the removal is.

How is the back glass actually replaced?

For a glass-only repair, the steps are roughly the same across shops:

• Diagnosis. We check whether it's truly glass-only, or whether the frame is damaged and needs a housing swap.

Does back glass replacement affect MagSafe, wireless charging or the cameras?

Done properly, no. The wireless-charging coil and the MagSafe magnets sit under the back glass, so a careful repair leaves them aligned and working exactly as before. A rushed or botched job is where you get weak wireless charging or MagSafe that won't snap on straight — another reason to use technicians who do this every day.

One thing people often mix up: the rear camera lens glass is a separate part from the main back panel.
