Cracked, but the picture underneath is perfect? Then the display is fine and you need new glass, not a new screen. On an Apple Watch that's a repair of its own, and it costs a good deal less than a full display. We do it at four branches in Singapore, priced per series and case size in the table above.

What Is an Apple Watch Touch Screen Replacement?

It's the glass repair. The top of an Apple Watch screen is the cover glass with the touch layer that reads your finger. Under it sits the display that makes the picture. When only the top layer is broken, we replace that and leave your display in the watch.

New glass over a working display costs less than a full Apple Watch screen replacement, and on the newer series the difference is large. On a Series 8 45mm, for example, it's $80 against $240.

When Is New Glass Enough for a Cracked Apple Watch?

When the picture is clean. Switch to a plain white watch face, then a plain black one, and look for dark areas, spreading blots or lines. If there are none, new glass will do. Touch faults count as glass faults here: a patch that ignores your finger, or a watch that opens apps on its own, is fixed by this repair because the touch layer comes with the glass.

If the picture is damaged, or the screen is black while the watch still buzzes, the display has gone and new glass won't fix it. And if the screen is lifting away from the case with no crack at all, it's the battery swelling underneath, which needs an Apple Watch battery replacement first. The check at the counter is free and tells you which.

What Does the Repair Involve, and How Long Does It Take?

The screen is warmed and lifted from the case, the cracked glass is separated from the display without damaging it, and new glass is bonded on. Then everything goes back in, sealed with fresh adhesive, and we test touch across the whole face, the Digital Crown and the side button. Most take about 60 to 120 minutes, with time for the adhesive to set. It's careful work on a part this small, which is why it isn't worth trying at home.

A resealed watch is fine for everyday wear, rain and hand-washing, but we don't restore Apple's factory water-resistance rating, and no shop outside Apple can. If you swim with yours, ask us before the repair.
